THE SCIENCE
SURROUND SOUND SPEAKER SYSTEMS
There are many parameters that effect how a speaker or group of speakers sound.
These parameters include the following:
- The surrounding room environment that changes what you hear based on its acoustics. This includes all surfaces and materials. Sound can be reflected, absorbed, diffused, and blocked.
- The method in which the back wave of the speaker is processed. In other words is the back of the cone open to the air, to an open attic, to a heavily insulated attic or wall.
- The quality of the speaker drivers such as the woofer, tweeter, and midrange.
- Using matched transducers which means using identical speakers in your stereo or surround sound system can help keep the "intended" designed/mixed sound as the engineers intended.
- The magnet size can effect how the speaker responds to the signal from the amplifier
- The cone material will effect the overall sound
- The voice coil design
- The support frame that holds all the speakers together
There are many factors to be considered when choosing speakers. These factors are as follows:
1. Your budget
2. Cost or Speaker Price
3. How you plan to use your speakers. For instance in stereo or surround mode, indoors or outdoors, and what volume or power levels.
4. The speaker manufacturer's reputation
5. Your experience with the same brand or similar products such as a demonstration or listening to family or friends systems.
Correct tonal quality (the reproduction of the recorded medias signal) for high and low frequencies by using mirrored drivers or the same speakers. This is key to delivering the intended sound track surround effects.
THE END RESULT
You can spend huge amounts of money on speakers and not get much better sound than from an affordable high quality speaker (such as Niles).
Make sure that all of your Audio Video parts and electronics are of good quality. An Audio Video System is like a chain; its only as good as its weakest link.
We've used Niles for years and can tell you with confidence that you will be very happy with Niles!
One last note: Don't be fooled by very low cost speakers. They may be repaired, refurbished, or damaged and then salvaged, and may even be an imitation. KTS Custom AV sells only brand new factory sealed products!
